    1. Coloured pencils haha. I usually use Polychromos coloured pencils by Faber-Castell, they are quite good for layering and the colours are very bright. Great that you like it πŸ™‚

      1. Oh that’s so sweet of you thanks!
You know, I started drawing portraits like 3 years ago and it was terrible. They looked like crap. I had a look on your blog and you are so much better than I was.
You maybe hate to hear it but it’s all a question of practise. Sometimes I draw a portrait every day, now I’m a bit too lazy haha.
And another important thing to remember is stay creative. I use ballpoint pen, coloured and normal pencils, watercolours, acrylic and oil paint, ink and one time even coffee. You have to try new thing, experiment so that you get to know your strengths. (I’m awful with painting in oil and I don’t like ink that much either, but I had to try before knowing)
Get a piece of paper and start scribbling. Or make a folder on you laptop with photos to draw or rework old studies. It’s definitely worth it.
I believe you can be better than I am with a lot of practise but I feel honoured that you want to achieve the level I have now

Hope that wasn’t a too long answer and I helped you a bit (and if you have further questions, I’m not an expert but feel free to ask)

        Lots of love

      2. Awwwww you almost made me cry…. that was inspiring really…. thanks a lot! :’) I will work hard!!! Art is very important to me since I was in grade school.. it helps me forget problems.. thanks again. :’)

      3. Thanks that made me smile πŸ™‚
But please, even if you are working hard, never forget that you do it to have fun. There are so many artists who think they have to draw or have to paint and don’t like what they are doing. You get much better results if you like what you do. And if something doesn’t work out the way it should, put it away and look at it in a few days time. That’s hard I know but I also had to learn this.

I am very glad that you share your progress online and I think you’re doing a great job. The best thing is that one can recognise the people you draw because you manage to depict the key aspects of the face just right.

Art is a great way to channel emotions and fears. In my exam phase I drew every night instead of last minute learning and I had a much bigger success because I was so relaxed and not anxious anymore.

Keep creating, you can achieve whatever you want in art πŸ™‚

      4. You know what.. I made this blog for myself hahaha! Because I like seeing my drawings really.. I don’t share my drawings to brag or anything.. I just like seeing them because it reminds me that I am good at something.. that I can be good at something.. My friends don’t know this blog.. I don’t ask people to see my blog.. You know everytime I draw.. I forget about other things.. I draw to express my appreciation to people.. their beauty.. their features.. to show myself that I am capable of improvements.. I like seeing other people’s works too.. and it makes me happy to be amazed by your work and other artists’ works. πŸ™‚ Thank you for sharing all of your advice and words of motivation. It helped a lot.. you’re the first artist to motivated me and give me encouragement.. I salute you!

      5. And this is the way many artists should think like. Doing it to discover what you can do and I share your opinion but not completely. Maybe some day you want others to notice but it’s just fine if you don’t want it now. I didn’t share my early drawing with my friends but I liked them, because I made them and I liked drawing.
Forgetting about things around and thoughts is something I also experience a lot. And I start drawing and suddenly it’s the middle of the night haha

I really don’t want to preach and I hope you don’t think of my words like that. I’m just glad that there are artists not thinking only of ‘how can I get successful, rich, known etc for the art I’m making’

Oh really? I’m sad to hear that I was the only one. Artists should love and encourage each other much more. We all know how long and how much work it can take to create something.

      6. Well.. it’s all about attention these days.. maybe that’s why people don’t share what they know to help others.. like the other artist I asked.. first she replied to me after I ask her if she takes classes.. she said no coz she only watch videos in youtube.. I asked her what site.. she never replied again haha! Well.. it’s all in the past. ^^ Thanks again my friend! Looking forward to your next artworks. β™‘

  1. It is nice to see a fellow artist reaching out to others! You are very talented. You said you just turned 18, congrats! Keep up the good work and you will become a great artist someday!
